Here are some of my favorites from the Jaguars/Buccaneers game from Saturday. It was my last assignment with the Florida Times-Union.

Two more days in Florida, along the coast, before I move away for the first time in 22 years. Buffalo here I come.

Produce stand keeps owner's mind on people, not pain

Selling roadside produce is a matter of survival for 76-year-old Wallace Lampp.

From Thursday to Sunday each week, Lampp sits on the back of his wooden trailer on Hecksher Drive selling tomatoes, peaches, watermelon and sweet corn.

"I'd rather sit out here and talk to people and watch the traffic go by," Lampp said.

His alternative is sitting at the home he shares with his son, Bruce Lampp, thinking of the prostate cancer that has been in his body for the last four years - the cancer he feels has likely spread to other parts of his aging body.

He'll sell a plate of Georgia peaches or ripe tomatoes for $3 each, but what he gets from that sale is worth a lot more.

He gets the interaction with customers and the prospect of making enough money so he can eat out once a week at a Golden Corral, CiCi's Pizza or Burger King.

But perhaps most importantly, the stand serves as a distraction from thinking about his cancer.

Lampp has two artificial knees, a failing back and bad hips. But he is resourceful when it comes to preserving his body. For example, to save his back, Lampp enables the help of a young neighbor to move three heavy coolers from his trailer to the stand.

Four days a week, he hauls his produce from his home to Blount Island so he can chat with customers such as Sage Johnson, who stopped in for boiled peanuts one Sunday afternoon.

"You see this operation?" Lampp asks her. "You pay attention. One day, you may want to do this."

Media Day in Gainesville

Today at the Florida Gators media day I worked with the black backdrop of shooter Steve Johnson, as he was shooting with strobes.
Got a nice little series, I suppose. And Steve was nice enough to not kick me out of the way.

Jesus' sticky situation...

If Jesus had a personal bumper sticker maker this would be the man. Perry Davis retired in the late 1970s. That amazed me.
Now, he goes to church and distributes a bumper sticker that reads "I am a Christian. Expect me to act like it."

Rain Delay

This is what I did during a rain delay at the Jacksonville Jaguars' public practice on Tuesday. Going back tonight, and the next night, and the next night. I am looking forward to it.





We actually sent the lightning one to the AP, and they moved it on the wire. So that is officially my first photo on the wire. It was pretty cool.

...is what Brooks student Shaun Kelly posted on my Facebook about my assignment at the VJ Multimedia Workshop in Ventura, Calif.
I got back to Jacksonville yesterday night after traveling 16 hours from the workshop. I am still trying to organize all the experiences in my head from the week. Between all the knowledge floating around and all the new friends made it an unforgettable week.
Here are some of my favorite singles from the assignment. I hiked up the Santa Monica Mountains with six senior-aged women. They have been hiking these mountains since 1986. I had to keep up. Huffing and puffing...and yes, there was some "inappropriate dialogue." Fun stuff though.
