Spent part of Halloween day checking off an item on my New York to-do list. Now that I've visited Montauk Point, I've traveled to the far west side and the far east side of the vast state of New York.

NHL opening weekend: Dallas Stars vs. New Jersey Devils, 4-3 (OT)
On Friday I began a weekend of covering the Dallas Stars for The Dallas Morning News. The Stars were opening up their season in the Northeast against the New Jersey Devils. The following evening I traveled over to Uniondale on Long Island for the opening of the Islanders season against the Stars in the Nassau Coliseum.

Orange Peels from Outer Space
Holding a solastial sphere, Dr. Mike Reynolds, a professional astronomer and dean of liberal arts and sciences at FCCJ Kent Campus, led a trip to Fiji with 30 others to view the total solar eclipse on July 22, 2009.
