Rewind to Brooklyn

Note: It is 75 degrees and sunny in Florida right now. So, allow me to say that it is a little strange to think we where watching the snow settle in Brooklyn from our roof just a week ago...

I suppose this is where beach and street photography meet, at the corner of A1A and Las Olas Blvd. Street photography really isn't my thing, but I spent part of this afternoon cruising down the coastal highway known as A1A.

Orange Peels from "half the summer that I spent In the wilderness, playing soccer and kissing girls"

_ _ _ _

My time in NYC/Long Island is winding down, and quicker than I thought it would. In a couple weeks I'll return home for the holidays before moving back to Dallas for a second internship with The Morning News. This will be my first time spending more than a week at home since my freshman year in college. Fishing, camping with my brother and father, fried Mahi sandwiches with mom at Bahia and lounging in the sand will likely be highlights of my time home in South Florida.

A postcard from the North Country

northcountry

I spent Thanksgiving in Massena, located in New York's North Country, with close friends I've known since college. We ate way too much, seemingly on the hour, while consuming a proper amount of hard Apple Ciders.

The cold weather reminded me of my Florida upbringing with temperatures between the 10s and 30s.

Saturday morning we found ourselves driving into a ditch, and getting stuck, while taking "the shortcut" through the beginnings of Adirondack State Park. Heavy snow started to fall as we left the house for the city. Turns out we got to the fork in the road at Lake Ozonia Road before the salt trucks did. After 30 minutes in the ditch, keeping smiles the entire time, we were pulled from the ditch by way of kind travelers and an old pickup truck.

Orange Peels from Battery Pointe Dr.

I'm beginning to look more at images I've made in the past. Images from the point that I realized my love for imagery was consuming, motivating and an opening, and always an excuse, to ask as many questions as I'd like.

I am calling these images Orange Peels, in an effort to relate to my Florida upbringing. I realize these images, each a peel, are a part of a whole - my continually adapting vision. It should be noted that most of these images are not vision defining works, but images that strike me from a particular time in my life and/or relating to my current affairs. ###

I recently moved into my temporary digs in Brooklyn. This, if my math is correct, is my sixth address in the last 16 months; which makes it difficult to keep my room in a particular fashion with the constant moving. I keep my walls bare with the skipping around. This image reminds me of how I kept my room before I moved from Orlando.

A palm tree shaped french board, prints from my best of friends and a Jimmy Buffett concert poster from a show in Miami during the mid-1980s was all I needed.

The sun takes forever to set...

longisland_4

...on Long Island in the summer.

I don't know if has been the endless lacrosse playing, rolling around in the grass, watching the fire flies or eating the world best bagels, but I wish I found out about Long Island sooner.

I owe much to Matt and Michelle for bringing me out there for a large portion of the last month. Among the many Florida licenses plates I feel close to home, and of course among the compassion and joy.

This song has nothing to do with Long Island, but I found the lyric otherwise proper:

"Makin' points with the stewardess high over long island sound
Shes also spending some time on the island
Too much city madness gives her the blues
They make a date to go dancin' and dinin'."
-Jimmy Buffett; The Weather Is Here, I Wish You Were Beautiful
